Tip #1
Make packing easier by buying packing supplies that are needed ahead of time. Those
could include cardboard boxes, newsprint, cushion foam or bubble wrap, packing tape,
marker pens, along with polyethylene mattress bags, chair or couch covers. Do not use
newspaper because the ink could rub off on all of your things.

Tip #2
Pack as much as you can in the same size boxes. When filling boxes remember bulging
boxes and half filled boxes don’t do well when stacked. Pack books flat to protect their
spines preferably in small boxes. Do not pack your boxes so that they are too heavy to
carry. Use crumpled newsprint, cushion foam or bubble wrap to fill in empty spaces.
Seal each box with packing tape.

Tip #3
Label boxes on all sides for easy identification. You can write on each box the contents on all sides or you can number each box, take
pictures and make a detailed descriptive list of what you put in each box. Either way it will be helpful in the future if you have to look for
something. Mark “Fragile” on all boxes containing fragile items.

Tip #4
Use valuable space in the drawers of dressers to store small items.

Tip #5
Use wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes. Draperies could also be hung in wardrobe boxes to help retain their original shape.

Tip #6
Use the heavy-duty cardboard dish pack boxes for glassware and dishes. Place a crumpled layer of newsprint on bottom of box for cushion.
Wrap each dish or glass separately with newsprint. Use crumbled newsprint, cushion foam or bubble wrap for cushioning around items in
box.

Tip #7
When wrapping “Fragile” items use cushion foam, bubble wrap, or newsprint. Group similar items together and mark the boxes accordingly.
Consider storing any humidity sensitive items like photographs, and antiques in a climate controlled storage unit.

Tip #8
Pack lampshade's in individual boxes. Use plenty of crumbled newsprint, cushion foam or bubble wrap for padding.

Tip #9
Place mirrors and artwork in special mirror pack boxes.

Tip #10
When you disassemble electronics, such as computers, stereos, things that have numerous cords, place small colored stickers on the cord
and the same color sticker where the cord goes. This will save you the hassle of trying to figure out what goes where when it comes time to
reassemble your electronics. If possible, use the original boxes to store your electronics and other items. Disassemble items such as
tables, bed frames, etc. This will save space. Put all hardware in bags and mark the bags accordingly.

Tip #11
Cover mattresses, chairs, and couches with heavy-duty polyethylene covers to keep them clean. Wrap furniture legs with protective bubble
wrap, furniture covers or pads to prevent scratching.

Tip #12
Clean and dry completely all appliances before putting into storage.

Tip #13
Drain gasoline and oil from all small engine equipment like lawn mowers.
